Sometime around 1986/87 I went to see a band called The Mighty Lemon Drops, who were one of the bands featured on NME's C86 cassette. I wasn't a particularly big fan of the band and the gig was ok but nothing that blew me away.
The main point of interest for me was the venue, situated in North Street Romford, called The Rezz. I knew The Rezz primarily as a nightclub in the disco days of the late 1970s. I don't recall going there myself but my sister went there several times with her mates. So it was weird to be there to see an indie band. In fact it was odd to see any bands (other than pub bands) in Romford at that time.
It turns out that the MLDs were just one of several bands that played at The Rezz during the 80s. I found some videos of an early raw performance there by Nitzer Ebb. Their version of Whiter Shade of Pale reminds me very much of Einsturzende Neubauten, another band that I saw in the 80s (although not in Romford).
I've often wondered whether Underworld, who are from Romford, had been inspired by the club when they named their 1993 single Rez. If I ever happen to meet Karl Hyde I'll ask him...

...it's just one of a few references they make to it in their songs...Peely loved it...and if you remember going there,almost single-handedly responsible for the resurgence of Tom Jones career...
